Faculty Bio

Mr. Hyland teaches English Literature for both full- and part-time students in 8th through 12th Grade. He graduated from Hillsdale College in May of 2014, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. As a student there, he immersed himself in courses devoted to the history and practice of classical education, including a special semester study on the liberal arts with the highly regarded Dr. David Whalen. Mr. Hyland also spent a semester abroad in Oxford, studying J.R.R. Tolkien with Michael Ward, renowned C.S. Lewis scholar and author of the book Planet Narnia. While at Hillsdale, Mr. Hyland was an active member and, ultimately, president of the Hillsdale College Catholic Society. He is excited to return to Sacred Heart Academy and to continue to partake in the growing community of excellence in Catholic culture and academic environment. Teaching in 2017-18: 8th English, 9th Humanities I, 9th Trivium I, 10th Trivium II, 11/12th CEC Grammar & Composition, and 11/12th CEC American Literature.
