Faculty Bio

Mr. Hyland teaches literature for both full- and part-time students in 7th-9th grades. He is a graduate of Hillsdale College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English. As a student there, he immersed himself in courses devoted to the history and practice of classical education, including a special semester study on the liberal arts with the highly regarded Dr. David Whalen. Mr. Hyland also spent a semester abroad in Oxford, studying J.R.R. Tolkien with Michael Ward, renowned C.S. Lewis scholar and author of the book Planet Narnia. While at Hillsdale, Mr. Hyland was an active member and ultimately president of the Hillsdale College Catholic Society. He was overjoyed to see the growth of the Catholic faith on Hillsdale’s campus during his time there. He is excited to be one of the inaugural faculty members teaching Humanities and Grammar in the first year of our high school. Teaching in 2015-16: 7th and 8th grade English 1, 7/8th CEC Literature, 9th grade Humanities and Trivium I
