Faculty Bio

As our Headmaster, Mr. Maltbie works to provide leadership and support to SHA staff as well as ensuring that Sacred Heart Academy’s mission to be a parish apostolate, serving families, forming Catholics, and cultivating culture is fulfilled each and every day. Mr. Maltbie is an accomplished trial lawyer. Prior to becoming our first Headmaster in May 2014, he served for five years as a federal prosecutor here in Grand Rapids. Before that, Mr. Maltbie worked in private practice after serving for thirteen years as an Air Force officer, where he compiled an impressive leadership record. He continues to serve as an officer in the Michigan Air National Guard. He majored in mathematics and geography at Michigan State University, graduating as the top student in the Air Force ROTC at Michigan State in 1992, and he graduated first in his law school class at Michigan State in 1999. Mr. Maltbie is married with two children. He is a convert to the Catholic faith, having come into the Church in East Lansing in 1999. The Maltbies joined Sacred Heart from St. Robert’s in Ada where Mr. Maltbie served as a catechist for many years. He currently serves as the president of the Catholic Lawyer’s Association of Western Michigan.
