Modern Literary Classics II follows its predecessor, Modern Lit. Classics I, and both Classical Literature and Medieval Literature, and builds on the influences that they hand forward. We will explore both culture, philosophy, and motivation of the texts that we read this year—paying close attention to ethical and moral questions for reflection and contemplation. In addition to reading, there will be both memorization of poetry and written assignments. The particular class will focus on moving towards a deeper growth in analytical writing, using proper citation, and formation of strong theses in anticipation of high school. While the year will be demanding, the intent is not rigor itself but to foster a habit of contemplating truth, goodness, and beauty.
