Date e Penuria Tua
November 8th, 2016, 32nd Week of Ordinary Time
Date e penuria tua, Give out of your want.
“When he looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have made all offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.” Luke 21: 1-4
On December 10th, The Christmas Market will take place at Sacred Heart Academy. This event provides families in great need with an opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts at a greatly discounted cost. Sacred Heart invites select families to shop at the Christmas Market by recommendation of local parishes, churches, and organizations.
The gifts available for purchase at the market are gifts donated by families from the Academy and Parish. This provides a beautiful opportunity for Academy families to teach their children to give out of their own want. We encourage you to help your children reflect on this opportunity, and prayerfullly consider donating one of their desired Christmas gifts to be a part of the market. The Christmas Market will take place after we celebrate St. Nicholas’ feast day. This year we are encouraging students to give like St. Nicholas and bring a gift for the market on or before the feast day on December 6th.
Father Sirico Homily from this Weekend
This past weekend Father Sirico shared a wonderful homily about the significant moment in history we find ourselves in. If you missed it, would like to listen to it again, or want to share it, you can find the text and the audio file here. The homily is a great reminder of the hope we should have as members of the body of Christ.
Sacred Heart Academy sweatshirts, quarter zips, warm-up pants, winter hats, and polo shirts are now available for order! The athletic (warm-up) pants may be worn for gym class. Order forms are due NEXT MONDAY, 11/14. We will have inventory available at the school for future sales, but prefer that you use the order form at this time. SHA gear is currently on display at the Academy.
Order forms are available here.
Nalgene water bottles, and travel coffee mugs will be available soon.
Virtus opt out forms are due 11/11.
As noted in the introduction, this Advent we will be focusing our energy on the Christmas Market. Students will celebrate St. Nicholas’ Feast Day, and will be encouraged to give like St. Nicholas to the Christmas Market. The St. Nicholas Shoppe will not take place, as we hope to keep Advent a more simple time preparing for the birth of Christ. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Surrell.
Please see the excerpt below regarding Recess. Please make sure your children wear the proper attire depending on the weather.
“Unless it is raining or the wind chill is 10 degrees F. or below, students are expected to go outside each day. They need to be appropriately dressed with hats, gloves, boots, and scarves when conditions warrant. Students who are prevented from participating in recess due to injury or other physical impairment may remain indoors after prior coordination with their homeroom teacher.”
Catholic Schools: Bridging Faith and Future
Please consider attending the Diocesan Building Faith and Future Forum. We have an opportunity to impact the future of Catholic Schools, and the Bishop is asking for our opinion on the current strategic plan. Forum dates can be found here.
There are no current FT specific announcements

Reminder, Parish Family Nights Resume 11/9
REMINDER – Our Parish Nights resume on Wednesday, November 9th in style! Be sure to come out and enjoy our Knights of Columbus Chili Cook-Off competition and our first installment of our three part series on True Devotion to Mary. These talks are in conjunction with our parish wide preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary. Michael Tober, the Parish Director of Religious Education will be speaking, and the title of his talk is: The Necessity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Devotion to Her. We welcome everyone in the parish and academy to attend. Find more info here.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Wide Marian Consecration
We began our Consecration on November 5th and this parish-wide 33 day devotion will end on December 8th, Feast of the Immaculate Conception after the 7 p.m. Mass.
We will pray the Total Consecration Prayer together offering ourselves, our families, our parish to Jesus through Mary. You may still join the Consecration! You will have to catch up on the days you missed, but it is still possible. All of the donated books for the parish have been taken but don’t worry the daily prayers and meditations are accessible in a few ways: (1) If you already have a copy of St. Louis DeMontfort’s book “True Devotion to Mary” the daily exercises are found in the back of the book. (2) There are shorter versions titled “Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary” as well. These short booklets have the daily prayers and meditations for the consecration. If you already own one of these then you can use that. Or (3) you can access them online for FREE here.
Baby Blanket Marathon Support
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish & Academy will be sending a bus of 53 representatives to the March for Life in Washington D.C. in January. Most of the participants are the Youth and Young Adults of our Parish and Academy! This group is seeking to gather 800 Yards of donated Fleece for their 12 Hour Baby Blanket Marathon to be held on Saturday, January 7th here at Sacred Heart. The purpose of the Marathon is to raise a greater awareness for the Sanctity of Life, to assist the local Catholic HELP Crisis Pregnancy Center, and to raise necessary funding to offset the travel cost to Washington D.C. for the March. Please prayerfully consider donating yards of fleece. We NEED to start collecting now. The only criteria is that the colors and patterns are baby friendly. Donations of fleece can be left in the back of Church, or dropped off to the parish and/or academy offices. All the fleece will be used to make no-sew baby blankets, all of which will be donated to HELP! Thank you for your support!
