November 1st, 2016, 31st Week of Ordinary Time
Omnes Sanctis, All Saints.
“To become saints means to fulfill completely what we already are, raised to the dignity of God’s adopted children in Christ Jesus.” – Pope Benedict XVI
All Saints’ Day is a Holy Day of Obligation (opportunity), instated originally by the instrument of Pope Boniface IV. He consecrated the Pantheon at Rome to the Virgin Mary and all the Martyrs on May 13 in 609 AD, and this became the original Solemnity. The choice of the day may have been intended to take the place of a pagan holiday. The holy day was eventually established on November 1 by Pope Gregory III in the mid-eighth century as a day dedicated to the saints and their relics. The May 13 celebration was subsequently abandoned.
Please enjoy reflecting upon one of the All Saints Day Mass preface’s below:
“For you are praised in the company of your Saints
and, in crowning their merits, you crown your own gifts.
By their way of life you offer us an example,
by communion with them you give us companionship,
by their intercession, sure support,
so that, encouraged by so great a cloud of witnesses,
we may run as victors in the race before us
and win with them the imperishable crown of glory,
through Christ our Lord.”

SMART Aid: New Financial Assistance Program
It is that time again for families wishing for to be considered for financial assistance to submit applications for consideration for assistance for the 2017-18 academic year. Before going further, please note: applications are due December 21st! While they will be accepted after this date, THE VAST MAJORITY OF DIOCESE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED DURING THIS FIRST ROUND. There may be less funds awarded after 12/21.
Current Academy families who fail to apply in this first round of applications significantly limit their opportunity for assistance. The application opens today. We recommend you complete and submit it as soon as possible if you are in need. Please find the instructions, and link to fill out the online application here. The Diocese is no longer using the PSAS Tuition Assistance Program. The new program is SMART Aid and is managed by the same company that manages SMART Tuition.
If you would like to see communication from the Diocese on the switch to SMART Aid, please click here.

Baby Blanket Marathon Support
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish & Academy will be sending a bus of 53 representatives to the March for Life in Washington D.C. in January. Most of the participants are the Youth and Young Adults of our Parish and Academy! This group is seeking to gather 800 Yards of donated Fleece for their 12 Hour Baby Blanket Marathon to be held on Saturday, January 7th here at Sacred Heart. The purpose of the Marathon is to raise a greater awareness for the Sanctity of Life, to assist the local Catholic HELP Crisis Pregnancy Center, and to raise necessary funding to offset the travel cost to Washington D.C. for the March. Please prayerfully consider donating yards of Fleece. We NEED to start collecting now. The only criteria is that the colors and patterns are baby friendly. Donations of Fleece can be left in the back of Church, or dropped off to the parish and/or academy offices. All the fleece will be used to make no-sew baby blankets, all of which will be donated to HELP! Thank you for your support!
Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Wide Marian Consecration
We begin our Consecration on November 5th and this parish-wide, 33-day devotion will end on December 8th, Feast of the Immaculate Conception after the 7 p.m. Mass. All of the donated books for the parish have been taken but don’t worry the daily prayers and meditations are accessible in a few ways: (1) If you already have a copy of St. Louis DeMontfort’s book “True Devotion to Mary” the daily exercises are found in the back of the book. (2) There are shorter versions titled “Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary” as well. These short booklets have the daily prayers and meditations for the consecration. If you already own one of these then you can use that. Or (3) you can access them online for FREE here
