Our Lady of Fatima

January 24th, 2017, Third Week of Ordinary Time

The 100th Anniversary of the Marian apparitions in Fatima follows the year of mercy. The first apparition occurred on May 13th, 1917. God’s beautiful providence and design are witnessed again, as the year of mercy is followed by a year that reminds us of Our Lady’s messages to conversion and repentance. These messages call us forth not only individually, but socially as well.  In these messages to the children who received the apparitions, Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, Our Blessed Mother had one goal in mind: to lead us to her Son. Many church fathers say in one way or another, that just as our Lady has had a profound role in Christ’s first coming, she will have a profound role in His second coming. The apparitions include prophetic words about the end times, as well as an exhortation to pray the rosary with devotion. Learn more about the apparitions here.

Father Sirico is currently in Fatima, Portugal speaking to Bishops from all over the world in commemoration of the beginning of this 100th year anniversary. Today, at 9:30 am we will live-stream with him, and he will give a catechesis to all of our students on the Marian apparitions from Fatima.

Handbook Highlight: Social Cursive

“The handwritten word in cursive slows the mind to meditate and ponder.  It is also a beautiful art form in itself and a form of prayer when used to meditate on the words of scripture or the language of prayer.   Beginning in the third grade we instruct our students in cursive writing.  As they progress to the next grades we expect most written work to be performed in cursive for full time students.  For CEC students, we strongly recommend cursive for written papers, as early as they are able.”
