Vita est Sacra
Vita est sacra, Life is sacred.
January 31st, 2017, Fourth Week of Ordinary Time
Last week 46 8th – 12th grade students attended the March for Life in Washington D.C. The students departed on Wednesday evening, driving through the night. On Thursday, they enjoyed a day of sightseeing, and attended the Vigil Mass for Life at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Chaperones and Students were moved by the experience of participating in the Holy Mass with Priests, Religious, Bishops, Cardinals, and other lay men and women from all over the country. On Friday, students participated in the historic pre-march rally where Vice President Mike Pence spoke, and then marched 3 miles along side thousands of others supporting life.
Students returned home Saturday morning, but the march does not end here. It is timely that this year coincides with the 100th Anniversary of the Marian Apparitions in Fatima. May we all march onward in devout prayer for reparation for sin, and conversion of souls, including an end to abortion.

Thank You for the Epiphany Books!
Thank you to all the families who participated in this year’s Advent Book Tree. With your help, we were able to gift over 50 books to our teachers and to the library! Whether at home or in the classroom, it is vital we share good books with our children. Thank you for continuing to support the building of our books collections at Sacred Heart Academy!
Used Book Sale
As we continue to refine the collection of books we offer in the Sacred Heart Academy library, we have found books which we can no longer use. Sometimes it’s due to their age, sometimes their content, most often we have a copy or two already on the shelves and simply do not have the space for additional copies. So we’re hosting a used book sale! Any proceeds will be used to purchase new (or new-to-us!) books for our academy book collections.
Near the front office you’ll find a cart of books. If you’re interested, please make any purchases at the front office window. Pricing is simple: hardcovers are $1 and paperbacks are $ .50. The office will have a minimum amount of change so please bring in your quarters! Happy shopping!
SHA Mugs, Water Bottles, and Stickers!
SHA has stainless steel Contigo travel coffee mugs, Nalgene water bottles, and bumper stickers available for sale in the office. Travel mugs: $15, water bottles: $10, stickers: $3.
Please Note: Benediction
As announced at the beginning of the year, on Tuesdays when we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we officially end the school day with Benediction. For 5th-12th grade students this is not optional. If you need to make arrangements to pick up a child early, you must sign that child out at the office so that the staff will be aware that the absence is authorized. Unless a parent has made arrangements with the office to pick up a child early, we expect the students to be timely in place for Benediction. Tardy arrival at Benediction is not acceptable. We will be working to remind students of their responsibility with this matter.
Handbook Highlight: What is Classical Education
The second point of seven:
“Integral – A classical educator knows that all knowledge is an integer, a united whole. At the lowest and highest levels the inter-relation of disciplines is evident, but this must become a daily reality in the classically-oriented classroom. While our days may be organized according to subjects, these should never be artificial barriers to organic connections. We always try to study things as wholes: The frog in the pond, rather than (or at least before) on the dissecting tray; the complete work, not the anthologized excerpt; the historical event in its context, not isolated by the national holiday.“
A 34L Men’s Blazer was found and is located in the church office.
